1888 Whippet full suspension replica
I teach Framebuilding 101 at UFV, and my students always have a frame as their project, so I wanted to say that I had a project too. I found this drawing of an 1888 Whippet in Bicycles and Tricycles, a book written by Archibald Sharp and published in 1896. I became fascinated by this bike.
Working with the oxy-acetylene torch to bend the seat springs for the Whippet. The bike took six months of labor to complete.
Close-up of the head badge. The seat and block chain came from the UK, pedals from the Czech Republic and custom wooden fenders from Cody in Oregon.
Receiving the People’s Choice award at NAHBS 2012. What better way to let the world know that “I’m Back!”
The Whippet is priced to sell at $35K (US).
